KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Grand Crown Motors, which lists its address as Boeke St, Kansas City, Kan., 66105, is a scam. A buyer who wired $16,900 for a 2019 Kubota KX080-4S hydraulic excavator reports the machine never arrived.
The listing was notable because it described a relatively late model excavator with low hours offered at an aggressive price, and the buyer sent the full asking amount by bank wire before the unit moved into anyone elses possession.
The listing
The listing on grandcrownmotors.com was for a 2019 Kubota KX080-4S hydraulic excavator. The seller published engine hours as 405 and listed the unit as used. The page identified basic specs and comfort features typical of that model and quoted an asking price of $16,900.
What drew the buyer was the combination of model year and the low hours figure, paired with the below-market price. The ad framed the excavator as a well equipped, lightly used example and priced it in a range that made it competitive against similar machines the buyer had been considering.
How the sale unfolded
A buyer who contacted News Equipment said they found the listing while looking for a mid-sized excavator. According to the buyer's account, the machine compared favorably to other listings they had reviewed and the published hours and price made it the best fit for their needs.
The buyer provided an account that they used the contact details on the listing to move forward and that they agreed to the posted price of $16,900. The buyer then sent the full amount to the recipient by bank wire, as they described in their communications with us.
After the payment the buyer waited for the excavator to be made available for collection or delivery. When the machine did not appear and no transfer of the unit took place, the buyer concluded the excavator would not be delivered.
According to the buyer's account, the result was a $16,900 loss: the buyer wired the asking price and no 2019 Kubota KX080-4S hydraulic excavator was received.
What the website shows
On its pages Grand Crown Motors lists a Kansas City address, a phone number of +1 913 336 0341 and an email for support at support@grandcrownmotors.com. The listing used clear photos and the kind of sales language typical of dealer ads, but the contact and address details are the only operator information published on the site.
The domain grandcrownmotors.com was registered Sept. 17, 2026 with HOSTINGER operations, UAB as the registrar and the registrant information masked. The site does not publish dealer licensing or Department of Transportation credentials that would identify a licensed seller or carrier for a heavy equipment operation.
How these schemes work
Federal consumer agencies warn that some fake dealer websites advertise late model, low-hour machines at prices that encourage quick payment, and that those sites are often newly registered just days or weeks before a listing appears. The combination is intended to make a buyer act on a single attractive offer rather than pursue inspection or in-person viewing.
The Grand Crown Motors listing matched several of those signals. The machine was a comparatively recent model with low stated hours, the asking price was competitive, and the domain had been registered on Sept. 17, 2026, days before the buyer found the listing. The site did not show verifiable licensing for a heavy equipment dealer.
